Artist Bio
Andrew's meticulous eye for detail and color, his precise draftsmanship, Venetian palette and polished surfaces coupled with Renaissance inspired figurative realism and 20th century Surrealism, afford Stevovich a style that is technically brilliant and aesthetically appealing.
Stevovich transports the viewer to modern everyday locations (beaches, subways, restaurants, racetracks or bars) as a hidden observer where figures with flat features and slanted, slightly devious eyes reside. Whether alone or seemingly alone in a crowd, these individuals are quietly preoccupied with the universal dramas of modern life: isolation, narcissism, boredom, the longing for intimacy and the fear of it. By virtue of his imagination, the narrative intrigues the viewer to contemplate an interpretation (or two, or three).
Andrew's compositions depict subjects caught in their own dream-like gaze. His highly stylized characters are engaged public and private acts. They may be waiting in lines, gathered at a bistro or salon, riding a subway, dancing, playing cards, or simply stepping from a bath, or laying on a couch. Stevovich’s concentration on composition and his expert use of color
add an air of mystery to his compelling imagery and illustrated narratives.
Andrew Stevovich earned his MFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston and his BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design. His work has been exhibited internationally and is included in numerous public and private collections.
