Julia Zanes" mixed media paintings read like fairy tales unfolding in complicated visual patterns. Rich interiors and lush, fertile landscapes are populated by ethereal figures, birds, and houses.
Julia Zanes" mixed media paintings read like fairy tales unfolding in complicated visual patterns. Rich interiors and lush, fertile landscapes are populated by ethereal figures, birds, and houses. Zanes writes: “I look for a painting that doesn’t grow old, makes good use of color and pattern and can ward off evil.” Assembling enigmatic people and compelling surroundings, the paintings are one act plays. The figures seem to be holding their places, waiting to express their individual monologues. Educated at The School of The Art Institute, Chicago, Julia Zanes’ work has been shown throughout the New England area, as well as in Canada, New Orleans, and Chicago. She has been exhibiting with Clark Gallery since 1991.
