Artist Bio
Rachel Paxton"s work takes viewers over a series of shifting planes. She incorporates collage with acrylic paint, often layering old nautical maps, sheet music, and dyed papers. Images of fruit, flowers, or animals, are painted on top, directly from life. Many of pieces address painting as a pure and simple medium and are inspired by Buddhist ideas about human desire. Her paintings explore the desires we have, such as reaching a higher level, the desire for greater psychological space and the desire to rest. Rachel Paxton received a B.F.A from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In addition to numerous group exhibitions, her work has been featured in solo shows in Rhode Island, California and throughout Massachusetts.
