Referring to a vision of pastoralism and harmony with nature, Arcadia for centuries has been associated with an idyllic vision of unspoiled wilderness.

I love these notions and like many of us, yearn for this earthly paradise. However, in the apparent absence of such a place, these paintings are contemporary stand-ins for the dream of Arcadia. Rather than depict idealized, dreamlike visions of a mythic place or state of mind, I have instead created more fervent and vibrant scenes of abundance and vitality. This Arcadia is fully alive, lush, and fertile. It is a place of unruly vines, astonishing moths, excessive bouquets, and irrational birds. This Arcadia is a little bit unmanageable, ripe with contradictions and defies logic.  This Arcadia may be the paradise we have just outside our doors.
