Allison Newsome works in a distinctive style to create intricate ceramic reliefs and sculptures. "The wilderness and garden as a state of mind" is a theme throughout her work. Newsome has found inspiration from the redwood forests in her native California, the Mexican landscape, where she lived for ten years, and most recently, from her home on the coast of Rhode Island. Her pieces feature vibrant blues and reds, as well as a palette of earthen colors. Texture plays an important role as she utilizes masterful techniques to create her unique sculptures. Allison Newsome received a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and a BFA from Chico State University. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Newport Art Museum and Federal Museum Jualas de Palanco, Mexico City, Mexico. She has created permanent installations in Rhode Island, Oregon, and Mexico.
