Jessie Morgan
Artist Bio Artist Work
Jessie Morgan’s meditative aluminum paintings evoke the patterns and rhythms of natural environments which she references. Through a repetitive process of experimentation organically layering paint, medium, and glazes Morgan develops her paintings echoing forms of nature. She earned her BFA from Tufts University and is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She now lives and works in on the coast of Massachusetts.

The Boston Globe by Cate McQuaid:
The surface of her paintings is dense and alluring, like stratified waterfalls of color. Each is a rippled veil through which we glimpse other colors, other worlds. Morgan is a colorist. her tones, and the way they interact, set off particular reactions: vulnerability or energy. Jessie Morgan builds gesso ridges over the surface of her pieces, paints, then traces those ridges with pencil. The washes of tone feel ethereal, but the texture is like furrowed land."
Art New England by Shawn Hill:
Morgan's surfaces are like seaweed, whole walls of it. Reticulated and striated, they seem to breathe in organic cellular life. Her colors are varied (off-shades of primaries, deep red, pale blues, hints of gold), and her titles suggest deeper, specific meanings.
Jessie Morgan"s work on plexiglass and aluminum captivates and lures the viewer into her dappled, flickering surfaces of paint. Greens, blues, and reds reflect nature"s influence with images of water, wind, and sky. The paintings are not explicit in imagery but rather in the energy and rhythm they exude. Morgan creates the textured paintings through a lengthy process of layering acrylic paint on plexi and aluminum. Through the observation of nature and interaction with the paint, Morgan evokes a sense of discovery and change, recording not just a singular view, but rather an entirely new entity. Jessie Morgan earned her BFA at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She has exhibited throughout Massachusetts and her work was featured in Skin, a juried exhibition by Barbara O"Brien, director of the Trustman Gallery at Simmons College, at the Fort Point Arts Community Gallery.
